Matteo Berrettini peaks at the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad

This year’s EFG Swiss Open Gstaad from 13-21 July was one of the best editions in the tournament’s long history. Played out against the beautiful backdrop of the Swiss Alps, it certainly ended on a high note, with Italy’s Matteo Berrettini celebrating his second Gstaad title and the welcome announcement that EFG has extended their title sponsorship of the event to 2027.

As well as the return of crowd favourite and former Gstaad champion Berrettini, this year’s tournament featured three players from within the ATP Top 20, including top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, and four Swiss players. The quality of the line-up, standard of tennis and level of skills on display captivated an increased crowd, with a number of days selling out.

Berrettini’s path to the final included an epic battle against Stefanos Tsitsipas, which Berrettini eventually won 7-6, 7-5. He then went on to meet the surprise qualifier Quentin Halys in the final, and quickly powered his way to a second title, 6-3, 6-1. After a sustained period out with injury, it is a timely return to form for Berrettini, who has now climbed back up the world rankings and into the Top 50.

Giorgio Pradelli, CEO and Alex Classen, Chair, from EFG International, presented the trophy to Matteo Berrettini as part of the awards ceremony, and afterwards he gave an emotional reaction to the result: “This tournament is very special for me, I always play my best tennis here…I love the conditions and the mountains and I am made to feel so welcome. Gstaad is one of the best ATP 250 events in the world. I’ll be back!”

In the men’s doubles final, India’s Yuki Bhambri and his French partner Albano Olivetti picked up their second title of the year, beating the French pairing of Fabrice Martin and Ugo Humbert 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.

At the weekend, EFG announced the renewal of their title sponsorship for a further three years, to 2027. Franco Polloni, Head of Switzerland and Italy region, EFG International said: "The EFG Swiss Open Gstaad is one of the oldest and most prestigious events in the Swiss sporting calendar, and a highlight in ours. With the tournament, we have a partner who shares our values and ambitions, consistently attracting some of the best talent in the game. The promise to ‘connect today’s champions with tomorrow’s stars’ to empower the next generation to realise their full potential is important to the country and a key part of its ethos. It is a privilege to be part of this team and we hope our continued support enables the organisers to ensure a bright future.”

You can re-live the 2024 tournament highlights in the official wrap-up movie and the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad will return from 12-20 July 2025.
