Celebrating 15 years of partnership with Sinfonia Smith Square

Each year, Sinfonia Smith Square welcomes 34 of the world’s most promising graduate musicians to their landmark home, Smith Square Hall. The 2024/25 Fellowship starts on 08 October 2024, in a season which marks the first under the orchestra’s new identity, Sinfonia Smith Square, and the 15th anniversary of EFG’s partnership.

A Sinfonia Smith Square Fellowship offers young musicians the opportunity to collaborate with some of the greatest names in the industry and perform in world-famous venues. It is a community where they can gain the skills and experience needed to thrive in their professional careers and many go on to become leaders in the classical music world.

A shared commitment to nurture young talent has been the foundation of our partnership over the years and so to celebrate the passing of time, we caught up with three musicians who represent the past, present and future of Sinfonia Smith Square. In this short video, Eugene Lee (Alumnus 2009), Maggie Lamelas (Alumna 2023/24) and Eliza Talman (Fellowship 2024/25) talk about the impact of the Fellowship and in turn, offer their advice to aspiring artists.

Rosie Fraser, Chief Executive Officer, Sinfonia Smith Square said: “In the 15 years EFG has been our Principal Partner, 462 players have passed through our doors and gained the skills they need to thrive in the professional world. EFG’s financial and moral support has been a constant factor and we are so grateful to know that they are behind us all the way.”

Christian Berchem, Chief Executive Officer, EFG Private Bank Ltd, added: “Our commitment is built on a shared belief in the importance of investing in the next generation of talent and inspiring them to fulfil their potential. As Sinfonia Smith Square’s Principal Partner, we look forward to witnessing an exciting new chapter in their development and the bright future which undoubtedly lies ahead.”

The new season’s programme includes everything from lunchtime recitals to inspirational talks, family concerts, the popular Christmas Festival and the continuation of the #ConcertLab series, where music is presented in fresh and innovative ways. There is much to look forward to, for both the young musicians and their audiences alike.
