From 11-13 February, Béjart Ballet Lausanne and the company’s artistic director Gil Roman have been given ‘carte blanche’ to deliver a very special performance in front of a live audience. ‘Carte Blanche’ will consist of four individual ballets and includes two world premieres:
- ‘Alors on Danse’: a world premiere and the latest choreographic piece created by artistic director, Gil Roman
- ‘Les Chaises’: originally created by founder Maurice Béjart in 1981, this moving ballet is revived and re-interpreted by the famous Italian Prima Ballerina Alessandra Ferri and Gil Roman
- ‘Bye Bye Baby Blackbird’: another world premiere, this time from Dutch guest choreographer Joost Vrouenraets, who invites the audience to contemplate the power of silence through movement
- ‘L’Oiseau de Feu’: a classic, acclaimed ballet about a magic firebird and a Prince, originally choreographed by Maurice Béjart and set to the music of Russian composer Igor Stravinsky
Ahead of the premiere on Friday, 11 February at the Opéra de Lausanne, we went behind the scenes to get a preview of the dancers in action during rehearsals:
