Vendée Globe 2024/25: The countdown commences

It is now only three months to go to the start of the Vendée Globe on 10 November 2024. Team Malizia’s skipper Boris Herrmann is one of 40 international competitors who will set sail from Les Sables d’Olonne in France for the 45,000 kilometre circumnavigation of the globe.

Known as the ‘Everest of the seas’, the Vendée Globe is a single-handed, non-stop, non-assisted race that takes place every four years. Boris Herrmann finished in an impressive fifth place on his first attempt in 2021 and so understands first-hand the nature of the challenge that lies ahead. It takes immense resilience, strength of character and skill to successfully navigate the ever-changing environment encountered during the two to three months spent at sea. In this short teaser video, Boris provides a unique insight into the significance of the Vendée Globe and what it means to take part.

Team Malizia’s mission “A Race We Must Win” carries a double meaning - to perform at the highest level in races like the Vendée Globe, and to use their sailing adventures to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect and conserve the ocean. The Vendée Globe route covers some of the most remote locations on the planet, so the sailors are direct witnesses to the impact of climate change. As they travel the world, Team Malizia gathers valuable data via their on board laboratory, which is then passed back to a team of dedicated scientists for analysis.
It is a privilege to partner with Boris Herrmann and Team Malizia as they embark on one of the greatest challenges in sport. We will be following their journey closely, so be on the lookout for more news as we countdown to the start of the race.
