On World Art Day, EFG celebrates the art of entrepreneurial thinking

Art inspires creativity, innovation and cultural diversity and has the power to change the way we see the world. World Art Day, which falls on 15 April 2024, was originally designed to celebrate art in all its beauty, reinforce the links between art and society and highlight the contribution of artists around the world.

Peggy Guggenheim was one of the original icons of entrepreneurial thinking and left her unique mark on the world by collecting and pioneering art that often challenged convention. The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is one of the most prestigious modern art museums in the world and a unique source of inspiration, including a range of masterpieces from artists such as Alexander Calder, Leonora Carrington, Salvador Dali, Leonor Fini and Pablo Picasso.

Peggy Guggenheim’s own personal view was that galleries should serve the future rather than record the past and she donated the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, the ‘Unfinished Palace’ on the Grand Canal housing her personal collection, to the Solomon R Guggenheim Foundation, whose mission it is to protect and preserve the artworks so they can remain accessible to a wide audience.

EFG has been an Institutional Patron of The Peggy Guggenheim Collection since 2001, a partnership founded on our closely aligned cultural values and a shared belief in the importance of conserving the artworks for the next generation to enjoy. We have collaborated on a number of initiatives, including the restoration of Pablo Picasso’s masterpiece ‘The Studio’ and Marcel Duchamp’s ‘Boîte-en-Valise’.

Through our diverse global portfolio, EFG supports talented emerging artists in the communities where we do business. We partner with Pinta Miami contemporary art fair and a series of regional art fairs across Latin America, from which we nominate emerging artists for the EFG Latin American Art Award, presented annually at Pinta Miami. This collection is on display in our Miami office and serves as a daily reminder of the brilliance that can come from freedom of expression.

You can find out more about The Peggy Guggenheim Collection’s latest exhibition, ‘Jean Cocteau: The Juggler’s Revenge’, here.
