EFG has extended its long-standing relationship with Team Malizia and Boris Herrmann to become a Founding Partner through to 2026. Over the course of the five-year programme, Team Malizia and Boris Herrmann will participate in a highly competitive race calendar which includes the Ocean Race in 2022/23 (formerly the Volvo Ocean Race) and culminates with the legendary Vendée Globe ‘solo round the world’ race in 2024/25. The partnership aims to build on Boris Herrmann’s and Seaexplorer - Yacht Club de Monaco’s success in the 2020/21 edition of the Vendée Globe, when he finished in an impressive 5th position on his first attempt.

EFG’s association with sailing runs deep and begins with a commitment to supporting the next generation of talent through provision of valuable life skills. In this we have the perfect partner in Team Malizia and Boris Herrmann, who want to educate and inspire children around with world through their scientific mission to find a solution to ocean and climate change – the other ‘race we must win’.

In order to compete at the highest level and achieve this goal, Team Malizia are building a new IMOCA 60 boat designed to push the boundaries of technology and innovation. It is equipped with a special on-board ocean laboratory which transmits live data from some of the remotest parts of the world directly to a team of dedicated scientists, providing valuable insights into the long-term impact and influence of climate change on the ocean.

Skipper of Team Malizia, Boris Herrmann commented: “I am proud and honoured to continue this successful and long partnership with EFG who were one of the first companies to join Team Malizia in 2016. Now we have an exciting 5 years planned together taking in some of the most iconic round the world races, The Ocean Race 2022 and The Vendée Globe 2024.”

Commenting at the launch of the partnership, Giorgio Pradelli, CEO of EFG International said: “We are delighted to announce our continued support for Team Malizia and Boris Herrmann, who have already accomplished so much. To compete at the highest level in sport takes strength of character, leadership, and teamwork, all attributes we aspire to share. With their scientific mission to find solutions to ocean and climate change, they will continue to raise awareness for sustainability issues around the globe. We are hugely excited by the prospect of what we can achieve together.”
