Professional history and education
Since 1997, Dr Petalas is the Chief Executive Officer of
EFG Bank European Financial Group SA, Geneva. Prior to this position, he was Senior Vice President and General Secretary of Banque de Dépôts, Geneva. Previously, he worked for Union Bank of Switzerland in Zurich (1978–1980) and Petrola International, Athens (1977–1978).

Dr Petalas obtained a diploma (1968) and a doctorate (1971) in theoretical physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. He also received a post-graduate degree in industrial and management engineering from the same institute in 1977.
