Re-live the highlights of Boris Herrmann’s great success at the Vendée Globe

Every Vendée Globe is unique and set against the backdrop of a pandemic, the 9th edition was one of the most enthralling in race history, captivating global audiences and demonstrating why it is considered the ultimate test of human and sporting endeavour.

Each skipper had his or her own individual story and for Boris Herrmann and Seaexplorer - Yacht Club de Monaco, competing in his first ever Vendée Globe, there were many dramatic twists and turns on the way.  They were one of five boats in a dramatic race to the finish line when a collision with a fishing vessel saw the dream of a place on the podium slip away, ultimately crossing the line in 5th place after 80 days at sea.

Competing in the Vendée Globe was the realisation of a childhood dream for Boris Herrmann, but of equal importance was another ‘race we must win’, an important scientific mission to find a solution to ocean and climate change. By transmitting live data from some of the remotest parts of the world directly to a team of dedicated scientists, they provided valuable insights into the impact of climate change on the ocean.

In this short video here, you can re-live Boris Herrmann and Seaexplorer - Yacht Club de Monaco’s incredible Vendée Globe adventure.

As a proud partner of Seaexplorer – Yacht Club de Monaco our congratulations go to Boris, who has also just been crowned IMOCA World Series Champion 2018-2021.  To finish the Vendée Globe in 5th position is a huge achievement, and one that required commitment, determination and strength of character. To those of us that followed your journey from our homes, it was an inspiring and timely reminder that life is there to be lived.
